Minimize frustration in three steps!

by

Hello out there in Civil 3d world! Today I want to share with you some of our common battles in resolving problematic drawing files, and I can almost guarantee you will benefit from knowing this information at some point in time. Many times we receive calls or emails to troubleshoot ‘problem’ drawings—extremely long load times, frequent crashes, error messages—and sometimes the solution is as simple as one, two, three.

If you encounter a drawing with issues as mentioned above, try this:

1. Launch the program (AutoCAD, Civil 3d…)
2. Instead of OPEN, select RECOVER and browse to the drawing. The program will go through a little ‘song and dance’, you can see the script running on the command line or in the text window as it recovers each entity in the drawing.

3. Once you have recovered the drawing, run AUDIT (choose Y to correct errors when prompted), PURGE, then save and close.

In many cases, you should now be able to open the drawing without the errors or problems. Keep in mind if you have external references attached, you will need to perform these functions independently on each one of those drawings as well.

Have a great week, and don’t forget about the webinar on Grading with Civil 3d, Friday, June 11, 10-11 a.m.—call us to get signed up at 281-445-6161, you can watch for FREE in real time, participate in the discussion, all from your desktop!
