GEOPAK & InRoads to Civil 3D : Civil 3D to GEOPAK & InRoads

Well, for those DOT engineers out there that won’t move from Microstation, [not mentioning any names (TXDOT)], you can now move freely between Civil 3D and Microstation. This can be achieved by using the Autodesk Civil Engineering Data Translator 2015 extension. 

This extension requires an Autodesk 360 account. The extension is stored and executed from the Toolbox in the Toolspace in Civil 3D.  You can download the extension from the Autodesk Subscription Center.

Materials for Pipe:

Steel pipe Normally refers to carbon-steel pipe. Seam-Welded steel pipe is made from plate. Seamless pipe is made using dies, common finishes are “black” (“plain or mill” finish) and galvanized.

Iron pipe is made from cast-iron and ductile -iron. The principal uses are for water, gas and sewage lines.

Other metals and alloys pipe or tube made from cooper. lead, nickel, brass, aluminum and various stainless steels. These materials are relatively expensive and are usually selected either because of their particular corrosion resistance to the process chemical, their good heat transfer, or for their tensile strength at high temperatures.

Plastics pipe made from plastics may be used to convey actively corrosive fluids and is especially useful for handling corrosive or hazardous gases and dilute mineral acids.

Glass all-glass piping is used for the chemical resistance, cleanliness and transparency. glass pipe is not subject to “Crazing” often found in glass-lined pipe and vessels subject to repeated thermal stresses.

How to use the P&ID’s objective in AutoCAD P&ID

To view P&ID Project Data

1. On the ribbon, click Home tab > Data Manager

2. in the Data Manager, in the drop down list, click P&ID Project Data

The example used on the P&ID’s Objective were, flow rate, temperatures, and pressure. And those properties  are define different or may not even exist at all, for example Temperature in the example AutoCAD P&ID is define as Design Temperature and Operating Temperature and flow rate is not even in the property list. The good news is that AutoCAD P&ID allows you to rename Operating Temperature to just temperature if it is what you want and it is even capable to add new properties like flow rate to the list.

Note: to add properties to the program you will need to have Advance knowledge of the Project’s properties and advance commands.

P&ID’s objective

its objective is to indicate all process and service lines, instruments and controls, equipment, and data necessary for the design groups. The process flow diagram is the primary source of information for developing the P&ID.

The P&ID should define piping, equipment and instrumentation well enough for custom estimation and for subsequent design, construction, operation and modification of the process. Material balance data, flow rate, temperatures, pressure, etc., and piping fittings details are not shown, and purely mechanical piping details such as elbows, joints and unions are inappropriate to P&ID’s

Microsoft Windows Update KB2987107 (Critical)

philip.s from the Installation & Licensing forum made an important post about the Internet Explorer Security Update 2987107. Not only does it resolve serious vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, but it also fixes several issues regarding crashes with the Autodesk Standalone Licensing Wizard, as well as AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP. The security update is deemed Critical for Internet Explorer 6 through 11 on affected Windows clients and Moderate for Internet Explorer 6 through 11 on affected Windows servers. A few of the vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer being addressed are remote code execution, memory corruption, elevation of privilege, information disclosure, and security feature bypass. Be sure to install the update to protect yourself.
